By Juan Barjas: Saturday night at the Panama Al Brown Arena in Colon City, Panama, Daniel “The Haitian Sensation” Edouard (23-3-2, 14 ko’s) met up with hometown favorite Alfonso Mosquera (20-7, 7 ko’s) for the WBA Fedelatin middleweight title owned by Edouard.
In a fight scheduled for 11 rounds, Mosquera smothered the taller Edouard with combinations to the body and head, giving the champion very little room or opportunity for counterpunches.
Edouard was able to step it up in the last couple rounds, connecting with some good shots to the head and body, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to sway the decision of the judges who, in the end, favored the busier Mosquera via unanimous decision.
On the undercard, featherweight Nicholas Walters (15-0, 12 ko’s) retained his WBA Fedelatin title over Jose Payares (10-4, 7 ko’s) with a 5th round TKO when Payares was unable to come out for the following round.
Lightweight Evens Pierre (15-1, 12 ko’s) was able to avenge his only loss by stopping Rosario Lawrence (13-10-1, 4 ko’s) at 1:23 of the six round. Each boxer had scored knockdowns in the fight, but it was a perfect body shot that ended the night early for Lawrence.
Featherweight Julio Camano (8-2, 3 ko’s) out boxed Antonio Fernandez (12-2-1, 3 ko’s) over eight rounds winning by unanimous decision and Jhoan Perez (9-0, 7 ko’s) pulled out a sixth round unanimous decision win over Jose Miranda (9-10-3, 6 ko’s).
