Mundine Beats Pintos on Points at Middleweight

By Paul Upham: Former two-time WBA super middleweight world champion Anthony Mundine moved down to middleweight and won a unanimous ten round points decision over Uruguay’s Rafael Pintos on Wednesday night at the E.G. Whitlam Recreation Centre in Liverpool, NSW, Australia.

33 year-old Mundine 34-3 (23) won every round and was rarely troubled by the defensive strategy of 28 year-old Pintos 31-3 (12) from Salto, Uruguay.

“I hit him with a few good uppercuts, but I couldn’t get through to the sweet spot,” Mundine said in the ring, after the win.

“The Man” Mundine was only slightly troubled in round 6 and slipped to the canvas in round 10.

Mundine’s move down in weight is to target German WBA middleweight world champion Felix Sturm.

Judge Garry Dean scored for Mundine 100-91, Judge Des Bloyd carded 99-91 and Judge Bernie McMahon 100-88.

The referee was John Cauchi.
