On the Move: SecondsOut World Rankings 2/13/11

By Derek Bonnett: On Friday, February 11, at World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan, Kazuto Ioka stopped Oleydong Sithsamerchai in five rounds to capture the WBC 105 pound title. The battle of undefeated ended with Sithsamerchai hitting the canvas in the second and fifth rounds. Ioka improved his record to 7-0 (5). Sithsamerchai tasted defeat for the first time and fell to 35-1-1 (13).

Ioka crashes the SecondsOut rankings and enters at number two with Raul Garcia and Juan Palacios on his tail. Sithsamerchai drops to fifth. Katsunari Takayama exits for the time being.

On the same night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Ionut Dan Ion outpointed Steve Forbes by sixth round technical decision at 147 pounds. Forbes suffered a cut over his eye from an accidental head butt. Jo Jo Dan, as the Romanian fighter is known in his adopted home of Canada, improved his ledger to 28-1 (15). Forbes dipped to 35-9 (11).

Jo Jo Dan maintains his number nine ranking among SecondsOut’s top welterweights. Selcuk Aydin, who won a controversial decision over Ion last year, is ranked eighth.

Also on February 11 at Bally’s in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, Eddie Chambers scored a unanimous decision victory over Derric Rossy in a heavyweight bout. Chambers previously stopped Rossy in seven rounds back in 2007. Chambers enhanced his numbers to 36-2 (18). Rossy fell to 25-3 (14). The bout was an IBF title eliminator.

"Fast" Eddie remains the sixth best heavyweight at SecondsOut, right behind former nemesis Alexander Povetkin.

Also on the card, Rico Ramos defeated Alejandro Valdez in a ten rounder at 122 pounds. Ramos tentatively out boxed the more experienced veteran to advance his dossier to 19-0 (10). Valdez, a former world title challenger, dropped to 23-5-3 (17).

Ramos climbs aboard SecondsOut’s top ten list of super bantamweights in the ten spot. Jeffrey Mathebula exits for the time being.

On Saturday, February 12, at RWE Rhein-Ruhr Sporthalle in Muelheim, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, Steve Cunningham defended his IBF 200 pound title against Enad Licina for the first defense of his second reign. The unanimous decision improved the inactive Cunningham’s record to 24-2 (12) and marked only his fourth fight since 2007. Licina dropped to 19-3 (10).

Also on the card, Yoan Pablo Hernandez defeated Steve Herelius for the interim WBA 200 pound title. The bout was stopped at 1:19 of round seven after Herelius hit the canvas twice. Hernandez’s record improved to 24-1 (13). Herelius fell to 21-2-1 (12).

Cunningham remains the number two boxer at cruiserweight with the win. Hernandez jumps one spot in SecondsOut’s rankings from eight to seven. Danny Green is pushed from seventh to eighth.

Also on the card, Arthur Abraham had a quick night against Stjepan Bozic to get back to his winning ways following back to back defeats to Andre Dirrell and Carl Froch. Bozic was unable to continue after about a minute into the second round due to an injured hand. Abraham elevated his numbers to 32-2 (26). Bozic fell to 24-5 (15).

Abraham holds his number six ranking among SecondsOut’s super middleweights.

Also on the card, Karo Murat defeated Christian Cruz by eight round decision to get back in the win column since losing to Nathan Cleverly. Murat improved his ledger to 23-1 (13). Cruz was further humbled to 12-12-1 (10).

Murat remains the number ten light heavyweight among SecondsOut’s elites.
Also on Saturday, February 12, at Polideportivo Municipal in Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Omar Andres Narvaez outscored Victor Zaleta to defend the WBO 115 pound title for the first time. Narvaez lost only one round on the three judges’ scorecards and enhanced his record to 33-0-2 (19). Zaleta fell to 17-2 (9).

Narvaez holds down the number two spot at 115 behind only Hugo Cazares, but with Tomas Rojas in hot pursuit.

Also on the card, Sammy Gutierrez stopped Renan Trongco in six rounds to defend the interim WBA 105 pound title for the first time. Gutierrez raised his record to 27-5-2 (18). Trongco fell to 8-3 (5).
