Akifumi Shimoda looked impressive at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Monday to out-point Ryol Li Lee and claim the WBA super-bantamweight title via 12 round points decision.
Lee was down in the third, fifth and eighth rounds while Shimoda hit the canvas in the third round. At the end of 12 rounds hard fought rounds all three judges scored the bout for Shimoda by scores of 118-109,115-111 and 118-109.
Shimoda improves to 23-2-1-(10), Lee falls to 17-2-1-(18).
In the co feature Takashi Uchiyama retained his WBA super-featherweight crown when challenger Takashi Miura retired in the eighth round. The 26 year-old southpaw down in the third round.
