Leonardo Tyner scores a 12th round stoppage over Angel Hernandez at the Masonic Temple, Detroit, on Saturday night.
Tyner 31-8-2 with 20ko’s has success early in the fight, stunning and dropping Hernandez with a solid right hand in the 2nd but Hernandez reacted well and then began controlling the fight with his jab. Tyner lunged in with wild shots and there was a lot of clinching in rounds 3 through 12.
Hernandez managed to back Tyner against the ropes for large portions in the championship rounds and it appeared that the Indiana man was well ahead. Then in the final round Tyner managed to land a massive right had followed by another one which ended the contest.
Tyner claims the WBU Welterweight title and Hernandez drops to 16-13, 13ko’s.
On the undercard Dwayne Williams stopped Terry Van Every in the 1st at light heavyweight and british middleweight prospect Ryan Aston made a surprise appearance winning on points over 6 against unheralded Namah Daghir.
