Vitali Klitschko took just one round to beat the previously undefeated Odlanier Solis at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany on Saturday night. A well timed straight right hand put Solis down at the end of round one.
The 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medallist took a bit of time to get his feet and was unable to continue, after appearing to suffer a knee injury after the knockdown. The time of the stoppages was 3:00.
Prior to the knockdown Solis looked to have matched Klitschko for much of the opening round but was caught on the top of the head by a right hand.
Speaking after retaining title Klitschko said: "I am so sorry for everyone who wanted to see a long fight, but I hit him pretty hard with the right hand and it was enough.
Regarding whether or not he thought Solis had quit, Klitschko added: "No idea. It will be very interesting to listen to what the doctors say at the medical exam. I don’t know."
Klitschko improves to 42-2-(39), the previously unbeaten Solis drops to 17-1-(12). A sell out 19,000 crowd was in attendance.
