Will Anyone Accept King Davidson’s Challenge?

By Paul Upham: Nigerian born junior middleweight “King” Davidson Emenogu has an open offer to fight any Australian based boxers at 154lbs. But according to his manager Peter Mitrevski Sr, no one is prepared to come forward and fight the 2002 Commonwealth Games boxing bronze medallist.

“I have been up and down the Australian ratings at junior middleweight trying to get a fight,” Mitrevski told SecondsOut. “No one wants the match.”

The speedy 24 year-old southpaw, who has Australian residency, is being trained by world champion trainer Johnny Lewis.

After being sidelined by a number of injuries throughout most of 2008, Davidson reeled off three quick wins in November and December to get his career moving again.

“King is looking good,” said Mitrevski, “but we are not getting carried away. We just want to get him some good fights in Australia, but no one will take the challenge.”

Among the names mentioned, Mitrevski wants Ryan Waters, Daniel Dawson and Rob Medley.

“We would fight Ryan Waters any day of the week,” said Mitrevski. “To any of the top guys at junior middleweight, lets make the fight.”

Davidson also won a gold medal at the All-Africa Games in October 2003 and now has a professional career record of 6-0 (4).

“Johnny and I are now looking for an overseas opponent for King,” said Mitrevski. “If he keeps working hard and listening to Johnny in training, we have a future world champion here.”
