Z Gorres facs Kengkarun on July 23

By Salven L. Lagumbay: Top OPBF super-flyweight Z "The Dream" Gorres faces a tough test before his planned crack at the OPBF diadem as he goes up against Thai toughie Deeden Kengkarun, the former PABA flyweight boss at the Makati Coliseum in Makati City on July 23 .

The event, which will be covered by Viva Sports, is one of the most anticipated boxing spectacles as it will feature Gorres before he takes on the winner of the upcoming Masayuki Arinaga-Daisuke Maruyama tiff.

OPBF president Frank Quill had earlier installed Gorres as the OPBF's mandatory challenger in the latest rankings by the WBC-santioned regional organization.

"I am ready to face this Thai," said Gorres in an interview yesterday. The sweet-punching former amateur standout, who had recently undergone training under renowned tactician Buddy McGirt in Orlando, Florida, is now preparing for his upcoming fight at the famed ALA Gym in Talamban, Cebu.

The talented southpaw, who is managed by eminent lawyer Rodrigo Salud and Cebuano sportsman Tony Aldeguer, last saw action on March 19, easily defeating Glenn Donaire in the first round underneath the Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao rumble. He has been undefeated in 8 fights since his shock defeat at the hands of Edgar Rodrigo in 2003.

The stocky Kengkarun, a native of Chumporn, Thailand, is a dangerous 33-fight veteran (21-10-2-, 12 KO's).
