Solis Retains IBF Crown/Chavez Jr Edges Out Vanda


Ulises Solis retained his IBF junior flyweight title via a 12 round unanimous decision over Glenn Donaire at the Palenque De La Expo in Mexico Saturday night.

Solis.27-1-1-(21), scored a shutout on all three judges cards by scores of 120-108 twice and 120-117. Both men suffered cuts. Donaire falls to 19-4-1-(12).

On the undercard Julio Cesar Chavez jr had a much tougher night against American Matt Vanda, scraping home by split decision over 10 rounds in a junior-middleweight bout. Chavez bossed the first half of the fight but Vanda came on strong late on in an entertaining give and take battle. At the end of 10 rounds two judges split the fighters by a single point, 97-93 for Chavez, 96-95 for Vanda, while the third official ridiculously saw Chavez a 100-90 winner.

In other action Flyweight Hernan "Tyson" Marquez pounded out an eight round unanimous decision against German "Panteonero" Meraz. Marquez decked Meraz in the fourth round. The scores were 79-72 on all cards.

In a featherweight bout Ricardo "Piolo" Castillo scored a second round TKO win against Guadalupe Arce.
