The European Boxing Union today installed Sinan Samil Sam as the European heavyweight champion
“The Bull from Bosporus” had faced Italian Paolo Vidoz in a 12-round-battle in Ankara, Turkey, on July 4. The fight ended in a controversial draw after one of the judges had changed his scoring of the 12th and final round.
Following an investigation by the EBU, the judge concerned admitted his mistake and confirmed that he keeps his initial scoring of the round of 10-10 which makes Sam the winner by split decision.
Speaking earlier today via a press release from Arena Box Promotions Samil Sam said: “Of course, I am very happy about the final decision”. I know that I won the fight and I was very disappointed when the draw was announced. I would have loved to celebrate the title with my fans in Ankara.”
“All that counts is that justice won in the end”, added promoter Ahmet Öner. Sam will receive the championship belt at an official press conference in Istanbul next Monday (July 21st).
