By Paul Upham: Exciting undefeated prospect Lenny Zappavigna kept his world title aspirations burning with an impressive 6th round stoppage of Tommy Browne on Friday night at The Cube in Campbelltown, Sydney, headlining a card promoted by Grange Old School Boxing.

21 year-old Zappavigna 17-0 (13) from Leppington started strongly prompting some thrilling two way exchanges with the much taller 25 year-old Browne 26-6-1 (11) from Campbelltown. Rounds 3 and 4 were memorable for some hard hitting combinations which hurt both boxers.

Zappavigna took control in round 5 and ended the fight in round 6 with a straight left hand to the body which dropped Browne and sucked the wind from him. Browne’s corner throwing in the towel as the referee counted. Zappavigna collected the vacant IBF Pan Pacific junior welterweight title.

In the co-feature, IBO middleweight world champion Daniel Geale 20-0 (12) won a ten round non-title match against New Zealander Daniel McKinnon 12-4-1 (6).

27 year-old Geale was in complete control in nine of the ten rounds, recording knockdowns in rounds 4 and 6. All ran very smooth for the Australian except for round 8. After dropping McKinnon to the canvas, the Kiwi beat the count and promptly knocked Geale down with a straight right hand. An embarrassed rather than hurt 27 year-old Geale regained his feet and went back to work, dropping McKinnon once again to win the round 10-8.
