Australian round-up: Taylor vs Holland finally on

July 22, 2001 - By Paul Upham: Australia's two finest welterweights, WBC No.8 Shannan Taylor and WBA No.11 Julian Holland will finally meet on Friday August 17 at the Octagon, Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, headlining Kieran O'Connor's next promotion.

The clash has been four years in the making and will give both fighters the opportunity to settle in the ring who is the best at 147lbs with Holland's Australian title and the vacant Commonwealth crown on the line.

"Shannan is a big, strong welterweight and it will be a good fight. I have to be at my best and get the job done," said Holland, speaking from his Melbourne home. “This fight will tell me where I am at in my career. There is no better welterweight in the country to test myself against. I'm in full training and will be at my best for the fight."
