Sydney based Lomalito Moala represents Tonga at Commonwealth Games

By Paul Upham: Born to a Tongan family, Lomalito Moala grew up in New Zealand and moved to Australia to live in 2005 at the age of 15. While he resides in Cabramatta, NSW he is representing Tonga at the Commonwealth Games in India.

The 21 year-old has had great success in the boxing tournament so far at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, winning his first two matches at lightweight.

On Wednesday 6 October, Lomalito Moala defeated Muhammad Hafiz from Malaysia by stoppage at 2:53 in the third round, after leading 9:2 on points.

On Friday 8 October, Lomalito Moala defeated Martin Chibela from Zambia on points 6:4.

SecondsOut reader Wendy Kelly wrote of Lomalito Moala, “(He) is an achiever, comes from a good family and has worked very hard to make the Commonwealth Games.”

In the lightweight quarter finals on Sunday 10 October, Lomalito Moala will face Alex Rynn from Canada.

Before this tournament, Tonga have never won a medal at lightweight in the Commonwealth Games.
