Taylor: “Sherrington Disrespected Me!”

By Paul Upham: Shannan Taylor may not yet have achieved all of his goals in boxing, but he feels what he has produced over a seventeen year career still deserves respect. The “Blaster” claims that Les Sherrington has disrespected him in recent days and will pay for it dearly when they clash at super middleweight on Friday night at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, headlining a Jamie Myer Fight Night.

“I’m going to smash this prick. 100%. Trust me,” Taylor told SecondsOut on Thursday. “Les Sherrington disrespected me. I gave him all the respect in the world. I said he was an up and coming fighter. I said he was a good boxer who was coming good after losing a few times early in his career. Now he is talking to the press spraying me heavily. He said I was a dirty fighter. I’m no dirty fighter, but you head butt me and I will head butt you back. He has woken up my mean side. I have left no stones unturned in getting ready for this fight. My fists are doing the talking on Friday night.”

37 year-old Taylor 49-7-3 (35) doesn’t accept suggestions that he is way past his best days and Sherrington 24-5 (15) from Broadbeach, Queensland is the boxer on the way up in this match.

“Les is not up and coming,” declared Taylor. “He is 27 years of age. When I was 21, I was knocking out former world champions. I’m back. The Anthony Mundine fight proved it. I’m hungry.”

The PABA super middleweight title and interim WBF super middleweight title belt will be at stake.

Sherrington’s career has been guided well in recent times by promoter Jamie Myer, but Taylor is not concerned about fighting in his opponent’s backyard.

“Jamie Myer is a close friend of mine,” said Taylor, “but like I told him when we were having a coffee the other day, you are picking off more than you can chew. At the press conference, Jamie said, Les is my boy, but I don’t know which way the coin is going to fall. I told him, ‘Jamie, this fight is going to go Shannan Taylor’s way.’”

Tickets for the fight from $100 to $20 are available from www.Ticketek.com.au

The Sherrington-Taylor card will be televised live around Australia on Friday November 27 from 7:30pm AEDT on FOX SPORTS 1.
