Fury Plans On Sending Haye Into Retirement

By Clive Bernath: They may not be the two best heavyweights in the world but David Haye and Tyson Fury are certainly two of the most animated, hyped and vocal pugilists in the division so it is fair to say that the build up to this highly anticipated domestic showdown will create as much debate and opinion as any other British sporting event this year.

After much negotiation Haye and Fury will finally clash at the Manchester Arena in the north of England on September 28 and whilst Haye is already looking ahead to challenging either Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko for the world heavyweight titles Fury, though, who is training in Belgium for the biggest fight of his unbeaten professional career, said: “He can forget any such plans because I’ll be knocking him into retirement.

“After I have sorted him out in the ring, there will be nowhere left for him to go – he will be finished.

“This could well be Haye’s last fight, believe me. But it will be one of many more for Tyson Fury as I head for the world title.

“If anybody can carry that torch for British boxing, then it is me.”

It would indeed be foolish for Haye to overlook the huge 6ft 9 gypsy boxer and Fury’s uncle and trainer Peter Fury agrees: “It would be a mistake for Haye to overlook this fight – Tyson is a consummate professional and already in really good shape said Peter.

“I think we’re going to see the best Tyson Fury there is when he climbs into the ring against David Haye, that’s for sure.”

With all due respect to Fury he will have to be at his absolute best and that means paying particular attention to improving his defensive skills. Time and again Fury has been decked with straight and overhand right hands, a punch which Haye specializes in. Say what you like about Haye but he punches deceptively hard with a straight right hand so and Fury will be only too well aware of this.

As the fight draws nearer the hype will steadily increase and things could get pretty nasty as both camp look for every conceivable angle to gain an edge. Make no mistake this is a massive fight for British boxing and the casual sports fan. If the actual fight can match the exciting pre fight build then we are all in for one hell of a heavyweight showdown.
