In a masterstroke of promotion by Matchroom, two YouTube fighters (ranked three and four on the YouTubeFighterRank) will join the Demetrius Andrade v Luke Keeler WBO middleweight title fight card, on January 30. It’s Jake Paul vs AnEsonGib.

The brand-new Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami is the venue which is just a cab ride away from the Superbowl 54 venue. That mega-event takes place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami just three days later. The worlds of celebrity and media will converge in the city for the largest annual sports event on the planet and some will no doubt descend on Paul vs Gib. What a party. Lady Gaga plays the Meridian at Island Gardens on the Saturday night.

BoxRec has listed the fight – both fighters are turning out for their Professional debuts - with AnEsonGib (or just Gib) listed amusingly as Ali Eson Gib. The reason for the strange name is that it was supposed to be ‘BigNose’ backwards but EsonGib was not an available name on YouTube, so a random Na was added. It goes with the territory.

SkyBet, like the YouTubeFighterRank, have Gib as the narrow favourite at 4/6 with Paul at 5/4 and the draw at 16/1.

Paul has had one amateur bout against a smaller opponent, KSI’s brother Deji, which he won. Gib has defeated MaxPlaysFifa, who was overpowered physically, and was then evenly matched against Jay Swingler but won the day. Both fighters’ weight seems to range between 175 and 200lbs with Paul about four inches taller. Gib seems, on the face of it, to care a lot more about winning the fight itself.

Both Paul and Gib look to have scaled back their social media activity (especially on YouTube) to train hard for boxing.

Consequently, the profile of the fight at this point seems low compared to previous YouTuber fights with just a month to go. But expect major fireworks at the press conference and weigh in.

The media around fight week is bound to be crazy given the Superbowl that weekend in Miami. The fight itself might be up a notch in terms of boxing skills compared to other YouTuber fights but is that relevant? Without regular social media posts will the YouTubers themselves be able to generate the massive audiences that previous fights have attracted? However, if the world of celebrity piles in during fight week the profile of the fight will be massive.

Whatever the result both fighters can fight either Logan Paul or KSI or maybe the ever-keen Slim so the YouTubeFighter phenomenon will keep rolling.

The show is live on DAZN in selected territories and on Sky Sports in the UK.
