Chris Algieri has offered his insight into what it is like to face Conor Benn ahead of the Brit’s grudge match with Chris Eubank Jr.
That fight took place back in December 2021 and saw Benn knock down his man in the second round, before later stopping him conclusively in the fourth round with one of his best punches to date.
That win came off the back of a decision win over Adrian Granados, and another impressive KO of Samuel Vargas inside the first round, but was followed up in his last two bouts by points wins, which has left many questioning whether he will be able to carry his over up to middleweight when he faces Eubank Jr on April 26th.
Speaking to FightHype, Algieri broke down the feeling of being hit by Benn, saying ‘it wasn’t Pacquiao power’.
“There were a lot of things that I was able to hit him with that he was definitely feeling. It was different with the other guys. Even the power was different. I wasn’t like oh man this is Pacqauio power, or Spence power.
It was different, I still think he has more development, I’m not saying he won’t get to that level, but I don’t think he’s there yet. Very explosive, covers distance very well for a short guy, which is why stylistically I think he’s a good match-up for Eubank.”
Benn will be the naturally smaller man for this fight, despite Eubank being limited to a 10lb rehydration clause on the morning of the contest.
