Former world champion Chris Algieri believes one man was unbeatable in the ring at his very best.

Suffering just four defeats during his professional career, Algieri proved to be a durable opponent for a number of generational greats. The New York-native achieved world honours back in 2014 when he dethroned WBO light-welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov in his hometown.

Algieri would end up sharing the ring with the likes of Amir Khan, Errol Spence Jr, Conor Benn and Manny Pacquiao before he drew the curtain on his career in 2021 with a record of 25-4 to his name.

Since hanging up his gloves, Algieri has become a successful analyst, and on a feature Pro Box TV, he spoke fondly of Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr, as he claims the four-weight world champion was ‘unbeatable’ during his prime years.

“No one beats prime Roy Jones Jr. Nobody. Beterbiev included.”

Algieri also went on to predict the outcome of a fantasy clash between Jones and former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, who has never been stopped.

“I think Roy stops him early. He doesn’t counterpunch, he beats you to the punch. Nobody beats prime Roy Jones Jr. He is almost a mythological person.”

Whilst the bulk of Jones’ success came during the 1990s, where he held world titles at middleweight, super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, the Florida-native made a monumental jump up to heavyweight in 2003 where he dethroned WBA world champion John Ruiz.

Jones is still considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, defeating the likes of Antonio Tarver, James Toney and Bernard Hopkins at the height of his decorated career.
