Dave Allen is going into one of the biggest fights of his career this weekend against Arslanbek Makhmudov.
‘The White Rhino’ has often been thrown right into the deep end throughout his career. Right from the early days, he was an entertaining opponent for the likes of Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz and Tony Yoka but failed to beat any of them.
Along the way he also claimed KO wins over Lucas Browne and Nick Webb, before last time out he stopped Johnny Fisher, which has earned him the fight with the 6ft 5″ Russian this weekend in Sheffield.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, Allen was asked about his dream next fight were he to beat Makhmudov, who has knocked out 19 of the 20 men he has beaten but lost twice to Agit Kabayel and Guido Vianello.
“Do you know what, I said to everyone, I want to box Anthony Joshua, That’s the dream fight for any active heavyweight, I think he’s still the biggest money fight out there. I used to spar with him here three times a week.
“I was just telling Rob [McCracken], I used to box Joshua’s head off three times a week. He just laughed ’cause he knows I didn’t. But that’s always been the dream. I’d love to box him, we were good mates years ago.”
Joshua has been out of action for more than a year following his KO defeat to Daniel Dubois for the IBF world title last September, so now may be a good time for Allen to get him.
