Amir Khan has long spoken about a return to the ring despite retiring in 2022.
Many boxers struggle to fully walk away from the sport for serval different reasons. For some, it is the lure of the big lights and the adrenaline; others feel they have unfinished business, and still others cannot resist the promise of big bucks.
Most recently, Manny Pacquiao rolled back the years this month when he fought to a majority draw against WBC Welterweight World Champion Mario Barrios despite being 46 years of age – a fight many observers felt he did enough to win.
Last November, 57 year old Mike Tyson also came back for one more when he took on 28 year old Jake Paul and lost a wide points decision.
Khan was last out back in 2022 when he took on bitter British rival Kell Brook and was stopped inside six rounds. He would retire in the following months.
However, speaking to Getting Casino ahead of Pacquiao’s Barrios bout, the Brit spoke of his desire to lace up the gloves once more and revealed the only two names he would consider: ‘PacMan’ and Floyd Mayweather.
“The best time for it [a comeback] is now, your hands do get itchy. You want to get back in the ring again, but there’s nothing that really excites me.
“It’s Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao vs. Khan would do massive numbers, that would be an exciting fight. I know he’s fighting Barrios and it’ll put him back in the mix again for a world title.
“But he knows what makes him money, and what makes him money is a fight with me, or Mayweather, the big super fights. I’ll definitely take it. I’d love to share a ring with a legend like him, but I’ll probably draw the line at 40 years old.
“If I ever do anything it has to be before 40. I’m comfortable financially, and I’ve got a good name, but you do miss those arenas. By 40 years old I think I’ll never look at it again.”
Mayweather has engaged only in exhibition matches since his last fight against Conor McGregor back in 2017 and is unlikely to risk his perfect 50-0 record at this stage, but Pacquiao could well one day finally agree to take on Khan if the money was right. Right now, he has his sights set on some active champions.
