Amir Khan is finding it tough to call who will come out on top when Chris Eubank Jr takes on Conor Benn.
These two inter-generational rivals are finally set to do battle on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium in London. At that point, it will be two and a half years since their first fight was scheduled and Benn failed a drugs test which meant it had to be pulled.
The years since saw Benn fight to clear his name and compete in the ring twice, while Eubank has fought three times – one knockout loss to Liam Smith which he reversed in the rematch, and one stoppage win over Kamil Szeremeta in October last year.
When all suspensions were lifted by the National Anti-Doping Panel late last year and Benn was cleared to fight on home soil, negotiations immediately started to rearrange the bout.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, former world champion Khan was asked about the fight and recognised Benn’s power but Eubank’s resilience.
“Conor is a tough fighter. You can’t take your eye of Conor, he’s got that power, that explosiveness, but then again if he hits Eubank with the same shot is he going to step back, is he going to go down, I don’t think so.”
The former world champion then admitted he now sees it differently to a few months ago.
“I think skill might win the fight. It’s a hard one cause last time I think I said Conor Benn but I think now I think about the fight and it’s more realistic that it’s gonna happen, I do lean towards Eubank because I think skill will win this fight.”
The bout takes place at middleweight, meaning Benn will come up from his more natural welterweight but Eubank is faced with a ten pound rehydration clause on the morning of the fight.
All predictions will be put to the test in April. Ahead of that, there will be a number of press conference to make it official.
