Amir Khan has been retired since February 2022, but has now been offered a huge comeback fight.
Khan is one of the best fighters Britain has produced in the modern era. The former Olympic silver medalist went on to become one of the youngest ever world champions from this country when he lifted the WBA belt aged just 22.
He had a total of 40 fights, wining 34 of them and losing 6, and fought a fine list of opponents including Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Chris Algieri, Luiz Collazo, Marcos Maidana and, in his final outing, long time British rival Kell Brook, who stopped Khan inside six rounds in Manchester to send him into retirement.
However, speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Kahn revealed that former multi-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao has been in touch to talk about a potential bout.
“Manny was like shall we do a fight? He was quite serious. Shall we make a fight happen? I was like, listen, if we could get a funder, someone like Turki Alalshikh on board, then why not?
“Look, we’ve had our best days, but a fight like that would definitely sell. Manny having a Philipines fan base all around the world, and myself having a decent fan base as well … People like to see people make comebacks, and me and Manny, we’re probably in the same position, we’ve both been retired three or four years, I think it will make a good fight.”
Though both men have sparred before, Khan is now 38 and has plenty of miles on the clock after many tough nights and stoppage losses. Pacquiao is 46 and has had 72 fights with 62 wins and eight losses, meaning many believe that both men should remain retired or consider an exhibition should talks progress.
Pacquiao is also reportedly still interested in facing WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios in an attempt to beat his own record as the division’s oldest titlist.
