Kell Brook made it clear that he would consider ending his retirement to face the winner of Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn. Amir Khan, who was Brook’s final opponent back in 2022, has weighed in on the idea.
Eubank and Benn delivered a British classic to make their fathers proud last month, with Eubank coming out the comfortable points winner after twelve competitive and brutal rounds.
The fight, which took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, lit a fire under UK boxing fans and reminded them just how thrilling boxing can be. It also reignited the desire in some fighters, particularly Brook, who has been retired since that long-awaited win over Khan.
Speaking to IFL TV, Khan said his former rival absolutely has a chance against Eubank, and indeed Benn.
“I said, ‘listen, bro, this is where you have to call the winner out.’ I said that to him straight up. One think about Kell is he’s got great timing and he would give problems to either.
“I think Brook should take that one if the money’s right. At the end of the day, I know Brook. What’s gonna really motivate him is the prize money. What’s the prize for this fight. So, yeah, if the paycheque’s good, I think he’s gonna jump at that. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s gonna interest him because why take punches off a young lion when you don’t need to?”
Whether or not Brook makes good on his return remains to be seen, as it is something he has been teasing for some years now. As for Eubank and Benn, they look set to honour a contractual rematch clause later this year.
