Chris Eubank Jr has long been on a collision course with Conor Benn but former world champion Amir Khan has a better idea for his next opponent.

Eubank and Benn were originally set to fight one another back in October 2022 but a failed drug test on Benn’s behalf meant the fight was cancelled.

It has been talked about plenty since and, despite Benn still being embroiled in a case with the British Boxing Board of Control and the UK Anti-Doping Agency, it has been confirmed that both men are all in to make it happen next. The pair came together in the ring after Eubank’s most recent stoppage win over Kamil Szeremeta to confirm as much.

Speaking to BoxNation, former world champion Khan believes that the weight – set for middleweight, two divisions up from Benn’s welterweight – is too much of a jump.

“I think he might be a little too big for Conor but it depends how Conor change himself and puts the weight on.”

He then stated that he would like to see Eubank face rising star Hamzah Sheeraz.

“With Hamzah, I would favour Hamzah in that fight with Chris. I think it would be a good fight for Hamzah, a great fight for his record and I think it will take him to the next level. That’s a great fight, Hamzah versus Chris in Saudi Arabia, it would be massive. It will take Hamzah to the next level and I think that’s what Hamzah needs now.”

25-year-old Sheeraz held the Commonwealth middleweight title since 2022. He has had 21 bouts, won 17 by stoppage and been in with the likes of Dmytro Mytrofanov, Tyler Denney and Liam Williams, so has very much earned the right to challenge himself against someone like Eubank Jr.

His promoter, Frank Warren, recently revealed that Eubank’s team turned down a £5 million offer for the bout. Since then, Sheeraz has been ordered a shot at WBO World Champion Janibek Alimkhanuly.
