Amir Khan is the only fighter to have shared the ring with both Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.
Khan sensationally stepped up to middleweight to face Canelo back in 2016 for the Mexican’s WBC title. Despite the best efforts of the Brit, who started the contest extremely well, the ferocity of the Mexican superstar proved to be too much as he knocked Khan out in brutal fashion to retain his crown.
Khan stepped back down to 147lbs to challenge Crawford for the American’s WBO welterweight crown 3-years after his defeat to Canelo. ‘Bud’ dominated the fight from the first bell, putting on an impressive display to stop ‘King’ Khan in the sixth round. This would be the Brit’s final opportunity at winning a world title before retiring 3-years later.
Speaking to the Ring Magazine, Khan was asked to rate the punching power of ‘Bud’, as he admits the 37-year-old has the power to cause Canelo some trouble when they face one another later this year.
“Crawford does hit hard, a lot of people don’t give him the credit for the punch power he has. Crawford does hit hard, I’ve been in the ring with him he’s hit me hard, obviously the most powerful fight between the two is gonna be Canelo but I think Crawford still has enough power to hurt Canelo and push him back.”
The pound-for-pound stars are pencilled in to clash in a mega-fight this September, although an official announcement is yet to be made. Canelo is gearing up to face IBF super middleweight champion William Scull on May 3, as he bids to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs.
