Oleksandr Usyk came out on top of his battle with Tyson Fury to be crowned undisputed champion and stake his claim as the best heavyweight of a generation. Amir Khan believes that momentum may shift before the current crop hang up the gloves.

The Ukrainian’s incredible grit and skill saw him through an in-form Fury to capture the division’s fourth and final major title having previously beaten Anthony Joshua for the other three.

Since then, Joshua has been building back, scoring four wins on the bounce and approaching fights with a newfound confidence. This resurgence has come at the right time, according to Khan.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, the former super-lightweight champion said that the undisputed fight – and more importantly what it showed about the two fighters – could spell success for Joshua.

“I think AJ sits right in the middle. He can spoil the whole thing now. I think what’s gonna happen is winner of the next fight fights AJ, I think AJ can beat them. Now, they’ve shown us a lot of vulnerability. Both fighters. Usyk and also Fury.”

The British boxing fan-favourite believes ‘AJ’ is improving due to his most recent trainer switch to Ben Davison, the man formerly in Fury’s corner for his comeback.

“AJ has definitely improved [under Ben Davison.] I think AJ has become a better fighter, and I think now he’s going to have more confidence that he can beat Fury. He’s fought against Usyk, I’m sure that he thinks he’s got his number as well, you know?”

Joshua is slated to fight in September at Wembley Stadium, whilst the Usyk-Fury rematch is now targeted for November or December. Depending on how things play out, heavyweight fight fans could be in for an exciting start to 2025.
