Amir Khan has not held back with his views about Jake Paul fighting Anthony Joshua.
This unlikely pair will face off in the ring on December 19 live on Netflix in a contest many think is hugely dangerous for Paul.
He is the much smaller man who has fought mainly at cruiserweight and never at a level anywhere near to what Joshua will bring. The Brit is a two-time unified world champion and former Olympic Gold medallist who has knocked out several world-ranked fighters in devastating fashion before now.
Speaking to iFL TV, former world champion Khan suggested the fight showed a lack of respect for the dangers of the sport.
“Look, first of all, I think [MVP co-founder] Nakisa hates Jake Paul because he wants him dead I think. He really wants to see his own friend, his childhood friend, hurt. That’s wrong, he’s chasing the money. He’s put my man in the firing line against a heavyweight champion who can hurt him and literally cause him problems in the future as well.
“AJ hitting him with that big right hand. Oof. If AJ hits him with a shot like he hit Ngannou and knocked him clean out. Even Ngannou would knock Jake Paul out. You can’t mess with the sport of boxing. Boxing is a sport you have to respect. You’re one punch away from getting hurt. Something bad is going to happen one day and they’re going to regret it.”
The fight takes place over eight rounds, with 10oz gloves, and Joshua must not weigh more than 245lbs, though that is unlikely to limit the damage he can potentially do to Paul.
