Amir Khan has been extremely impressed with a reigning world champion.
Khan retired from the sport in 2022 following defeat to Kell Brook after a career which saw him become a unified world champion and defeat the likes of Marcos Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and Marco Antonio Barrera.
He now keeps a keen eye on the sport, and was in attendance when Artur Beterbiev defeated Dmitry Bivol to become undisputed light heavyweight champion.
Khan heaped praise on both men for their efforts, but has told Pro Boxing Fans that he feels Beterbiev could be unbeatable.
“It was an amazing fight. Both fighters fought out of their skin. Big shots were landing and getting defended. One thing I can say, it’s the first fight I’ve seen Beterbiev fight. What a beast he is.
“I thought Bivol was going to win this fight, but after watching this fight and seeing how Beterbiev fought, there’s nobody beating him. The guy was punch perfect. A great defence, very strong, and hits hard with both hands.
“You can see how marked up Bivol was, but there’s no marks on Beterbiev’s face, this guy is an animal.”
Khan also revealed how he scored the fight.
“Bivol won a lot of the rounds. Up to round 8 I had it even. Round 10 it was still even 5-5, but the last two rounds, the championship rounds, Bivol was on the back foot and Beterbiev put the pressure on,
“He pushed him back with some heavy shots, and it showed to me that Bivol couldn’t keep up with him. This was a candidate for best fight of the year.”
Bivol’s team has now officially lodged a request for all four sanctioning bodies to call an immediate rematch.
