Hall of Famer Andre Ward has weighed in on the controversial upcoming clash between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.
‘Tank’ Davis is set to face ‘The Problem Child’ on Friday November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, with the event broadcast live on Netflix.
The fight has divided opinion within the boxing world, and now retired two-weight world champion Andre Ward has offered his take, having recently been linked to a return to the ring himself.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Ward admitted that he is interested in the upcoming bout between Davis and ‘The Problem Child’, as he claims he wants to see how each man will deal with the other, even hinting that ‘Tank’ could use his smaller frame as an advantage.
“So I’m not against it, I don’t hate it, there’s a part of me that’s interested. I want to see what’s the size discrepancy. The sparring partners for these dudes, that’s going to be a crazy look for both of them in the opposite direction, if I can see your sparring partners Gervonta, and see Jake Paul’s sparring partners it’s going to be a crazy photo op.
“The fight itself, I like good fights and I want to see what’s going to happen. How Gervonta Davis is going to deal with the size discrepancy and how is Jake Paul going to deal with a guy that’s as small as Gervonta Davis, call me crazy.”
Paul has received criticism for opting to face ‘Tank’ next, especially considering the 28-year-old former YouTuber weighed in at over 60 pounds heavier ahead of his last bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr than what Davis weighed in before he faced Lamont Roach earlier this year.
