Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr has shared his verdict on the upcoming ‘mega-fight’ between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
The modern greats are less than one month away from their battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship, which takes place on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
‘Bud’ is gearing up to make his first ever appearance at 168lbs, having spent almost the entire duration of his accomplished professional career campaigning at welterweight where he became undisputed champion back in July of 2023 with a victory over Errol Spence Jr.
Canelo has proved himself to be one of, if not the best super-middleweight of his generation since making the move up from 160lbs back in 2018, defeating the likes of Callum Smith, Jermell Charlo and Gennady Golovkin along the way.
Speaking to Fight Hype, former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz shared his thoughts on the impending showdown between Canelo and Crawford, as he admits he is leaning towards the Mexican superstar to get the job done.
“I think that’s gonna be a good fight man. I’m going for Canelo of course, you know, he’s a Mexican warrior as well.”
Whilst many fans and analysts seem to be backing Canelo to get the victory over Crawford, a win for the unbeaten American would see him write his name into the boxing history books by becoming the first male fighter to win an undisputed championship, having already achieved this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight.
