Andy Ruiz Jr knows all about upsetting the odds, but there’s one active fighter that he believes is simply too good to take a loss right now.

The 34-year-old shocked the world when, as a late replacement opponent, he knocked down and stopped unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in New York back in 2019.

Although Ruiz would lose the rematch convincgly later that year, he still made history as the first Mexican-American champion in the top division.

He’s keeping a keen eye on the sport now that his next fight is scheduled – an August 3 bout against Jarrell Miller, the man he replaced to fight ‘AJ’ – and was at this weekend’s PBC show in Las Vegas.

Ruiz, like the rest in attendance and the plenty watching on Amazon Prime, witnessed Gervonta Davis’ 28th knockout as the Baltimore boxer stopped a tricky Frank Martin in the eighth round.

Davis, as he does, started the contest slowly, attempting to get a read on his fellow southpaw before pouncing with power shots. It helped Martin, whose game-plan was heavily focused on movement, to build confidence in the first half of the bout.

The devastating two-punch stoppage that was to come led Ruiz to tell 210 Boxing TV that ‘Tank’ can’t be beat.

“Man that was an amazing fight. Martin did his thing man but Gervonta Davis, with the power, the explosiveness, the quickness, he did his thing. [He can go] anywhere dude, I don’t think anyone can beat him right now. Nobody.”

After retaining his WBA Lightweight World title with the win, Davis has now welcomed unification bouts with either Shakur Stevenson or Vasily Lomachenko.
