Anthony Joshua has been studying Daniel Dubois ahead of their world title clash this weekend.
This weekend, ‘AJ’ is aiming to become a three-time world champion having previously held three of the four major heavyweight titles from 2018 to 2020, albeit with a small break in between when he lost to Andy Ruiz Jr before avenging the result in the rematch six months later.
Oleksandr Usyk took his belts for good over two fights in 2021 and 2022. Since then, the Brit has rebuilt with four straight wins including three knockouts against Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou. He now faces hard-hitting 27-year-old Dubois, who he compared to a British legend and former world champion when speaking to DAZN.
“[Dubois] keeps getting opportunity after opportunity. It reminds me of the Frank Bruno story. He had opportunity after opportunity to become the heavyweight world champion and finally achieved it.”
Dubois has previously challenged for the world title against Oleksandr Usyk and lost by knockout. The Ukrainian then went on to become undisputed with a win over Tyson Fury, but vacated the IBF belt not long after. Dubois’ impressive win over Filip Hrgovic saw him upgraded from interim to full champion at that point.
In a seperate DAZN feature, Joshua was asked if Dubois reminded him of a younger version of himself ‘in any shape or form.’
“No, there is only one.”
The fight takes place at Wembley Stadium in front of a record 96, 0000 people this Saturday.
