Anthony Joshua has shared an update on a potential showdown with long-term rival Tyson Fury.
The domestic heavyweight duo have been on a collision course for about a decade but have failed to finalise what many consider to be the biggest fight in British boxing history.
Fury made his return to the ring on Saturday night as he defeated Russian-Canadian Arslanbek Makhmudov in a landslide unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Joshua was last in action back in December when he knocked out Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in the 6th round of their clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami, his first ring appearance since he suffered a devastating stoppage defeat to former IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
‘AJ’ was in attendance for Fury’s comeback bout against Makhmudov and, despite Turki Alalshikh teasing that the Fury fight would be announced, and ‘The Gypgy King’ calling ‘AJ’ out post-fight, he said on the Netflix broadcast that the deal has to be finalised. Still, he said it happening next is ‘more than likely.’
“I’m going to be completely honest. There’s a negotiation that you go through. I’ve sat at this table with him many times. In my heart I’ll fight Tyson Fury tomorrow. Especially after watching that. There’s no problem with me fighting, that’s what I do.
“I’m not here to get clout, I’m here to fight. Contracts will be sent over, we’ll go through the nitty gritty and you’ll probably see us in the ring next more than likely. But I’m not here to start getting in the ring and shouting in someone’s face, if you look at my track record I’ve never done that. I watched the fight, I saw what I saw and I know what I’ll do when I get in the ring.”
