Anthony Joshua is currently looking to re-build his career after a defeat in his last fight.
Joshua came up short in his bid to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he was stopped by Daniel Dubois in five rounds at Wembley Stadium in September.
The performance was a far-cry from the ‘AJ’ that fans had seen over the past 12 years, where he looked to once again be back to his old self.
Joshua viciously knocked out Francis Ngannou in two rounds back in March, and had also claimed stoppage wins over Otto Wallin and Robert Helenius prior to that.
The run of three straight stoppages was the first time since 2017 that Joshua had achieved that accolade, where knockout wins were a lot more common for the Olympic gold medalist.
He reflected on that power whilst speaking to Boxing News, and in doing so has named the heavyweight who he feels he ruined the career of after earning a knockout victory – domestic rival Dillian Whyte.
“I think people underestimate me, they think they can just come and put pressure on me because I am not mentally all that or this.
“I am a power puncher myself. I break peoples’ eye sockets. I broke Wallin’s nose and eye socket, Helenius got sparked out, and I f***ing ruined Dillian Whyte’s career with an uppercut. The list goes on.”
Joshua and Whyte met at The O2 Arena in London back in 2015, with ‘AJ’ coming through some tricky moments to win by seventh round knockout.
While Joshua feels he ruined Whyte’s career, ‘The Bodysnatcher’ did recover from the loss, winning 11 straight fights, but has since had stoppage defeats to Tyson Fury and Alexander Povetkin.
Joshua and Whyte were due to meet again in August 2023 before Whyte failed a drugs test ahead of the bout. He has since returned with a win over Christian Hammer in March, and Whyte recently had a lot to say when discussing Joshua’s loss to Dubois.
