Anthony Joshua will stay with Rob McCracken (video)

In football, when the players underperform it is often the manager who pays with their job. Similarly in boxing, trainers are regularly made scapegoats for their charges’ mistakes. Unfair, sure, but all too comnon.

When Andy Ruiz Jr shocked Anthony Joshua - and a host of other people - back in June, there were sadly predictable calls for AJ to jettison Rob McCracken, the trainer who had taken him to Olympic gold and unified world heavyweight titles.

As GB Boxing podium coach Lee Pullen points out here though, Joshua is ’too smart’ for such a drastic move.
