Many fans feel that Jaron Ennis deserves a shot at Terence Crawford.
The two didn’t meet in the welterweight ranks, with ‘Boots’ Ennis building up his record whilst Crawford was at the top and waiting for a fight against fellow champion Errol Spence Jr.
That fight happened for the undisputed title and the 36-year-old from Omaha put a beating on Spence plenty of people didn’t see coming. Crawford made the decision shortly after to move up in weight, looking for a new challenge but preventing a fight against Ennis, who snatched up one of the four vacant world titles Crawford left behind.
He has since won a belt at super-welterweight and has no intentions of moving back down, but Ennis has said he is willing to step up if a deal can be done.
Should that happen, former light-heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver told FightHype he is backing ‘Bud’ to keep winning. In fact, he’ll back him against all comers.
“See I’m a Crawford guy. I’m gonna always run with Crawford cause I saw him a long time ago, my mind was made up a long time ago. He’s done nothing but solidify everything that I thought he could be. So until someone beat Crawford I’m gonna run with him, and I don’t mind losing when I’m going with my guy, you feel me? I don’t think he’ll lose but I’m gonna roll with him regardless. I’d rather be wrong than turn my back on a fighter I fell in love with a long time ago.”
Whilst Ennis pushes for the fight, there’s a general feeling in the sport that Crawford may hang up the gloves if he fails to secure a bout with unified super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
