Terence Crawford‘s mega-fight with Canelo Alvarez is fast approaching.
After nearly a year of speculation, it has been confirmed that the two men will do battle in Las Vegas in September, in arguably the biggest fight in boxing today.
It will see Crawford moving up two weight divisions to super-middleweight for the clash against Canelo, as he aims to become a five-weight world champion.
He could even get the chance to become a three-weight undisputed champion after his previous reigns at super-lightweight and welterweight, provided that WBC, WBA and WBO champion Alvarez can first defeat IBF champion William Scull in May.
Crawford is seen as the underdog for the clash, due to the big jump in weight in order to get up to 168lbs. Last time out, ‘Bud’ competed at 154lbs when he took on WBA super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov.
While Crawford was able to win the fight by unanimous decision, some fans felt that he didn’t look as impressive as he had done during his time at welterweight, where he defeated the likes of Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter.
One man who worked with ‘Bud’ for all but one of his fights at 147lbs was legendary promoter Bob Arum, with Top Rank guiding the career of Crawford for many years.
Arum has now offered his take on the match-up with Canelo, revealing to Fight Hub TV whether he thinks Crawford has the power to trouble the Mexican superstar.
“It’s an interesting fight, but I think there’s only one winner. Canelo is used to fighting at a particular level and I don’t think that Terence can hurt Canelo, but Canelo can hurt Terence.”
While Arum has his reservations on Crawford’s chances, one former super-middleweight world champion believes that ‘Bud’ is going to ‘cruise past’ Canelo.
