Bob Arum has not pulled his punches while discussing the career of one former heavyweight champion.
There has been plenty of change at the top of the heavyweight division in recent times. For many years, British star Anthony Joshua ruled supreme on UK shores as a unified champion who was selling out stadiums and knocking out most opponents.
However, Joshua eventually became unstuck and dethroned by the great Oleksandr Usyk who beat him twice on his way to becoming undisputed.
It was Tyson Fury who then stole the limelight, twice beating Deontay Wilder to claim his WBC world title. However, like AJ, Fury also also surrendered his belt to Usyk and failed to win it back in the rematch. Fury has since announced his retirement.
Daniel Dubois is the current IBF champion after knocking out Joshua in devastating fashion last year. ‘DDD’ will defend his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22, with one eye on rematching Usyk later in the year, but this time for all the titles.
Speaking to FightHub, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum thinks it’s now ‘over’ for Joshua after his crushing loss to Dubois.
“No, you don’t have an off night getting the s**t kicked out of you that way. I just think ‘AJ’ has been through a lot of wars. I think it’s over for him.”
Despite the criticism, ‘AJ’ has confirmed he will fight on and is understood to be targeting the winner of Dubois-Parker later this month.
