Teddy Atlas has revealed exactly how he scored the historic clash between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ Crawford cemented himself as arguably the best fighter of his generation last weekend as he defeated Mexican icon Canelo to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In what was his first appearance at 168lbs having moved up two weight classes, the 37-year-old Omaha-native put on an impressive performance to hand Canelo the third defeat of his career and become the first male fighter ever to win an undisputed championship in three divisions.

The judges at ringside scored the bout 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 all in favour of the unbeaten American, although it has been suggested by fans and experts alike that the cards should have been a lot wider.

Legendary trained-turned-analyst Atlas is one of those who agrees with that sentiment, as speaking on his YouTube channel THE FIGHT, he admits he only gave Canelo ‘two rounds’ on the night.

“Unfortunately, the judges did the same thing they did in the Bivol fight, they scared the cr*p out of us, they made us realise they were gonna rob him if he didn’t destroy him, if he didn’t dominate, I mean are you kidding me? He dominated.

“I’m gonna be nice and I’m gonna give Canelo two rounds, and I’m being nice, I’m not being a wise guy, I’m being honest, I’m being a professional.”

Canelo has received some criticism for his performance against Crawford, with many experts left wondering whether the 35-year-old should go on to announce his retirement from the sport after suffering the third defeat of what has been a storied professional career.
