Teddy Atlas has revealed his favourite fight of all time, one that he has no trouble in watching back over and over again.
Atlas has established himself as one of the most prominent figures in the sport over the last 40 years, earning himself respect through his work as a trainer and an analyst.
He has worked alongside a number of world-class fighters during his training career, including the likes of Alexander Povetkin, Michael Moorer and Tim Bradley to name just a few.
Atlas went on to serve as a commentator and analyst for ESPN, covering a number of memorable encounters over the years where he became one of the ‘voices of boxing’.
In more recent years, Atlas has been sharing his expertise on his dedicated YouTube channel ‘THE FIGHT’ where he breaks down and gives his verdict on many of the biggest fights in the sport.
Speaking to Carl Froch recently, Atlas made no mistake in naming the first encounter between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward as the one fight that he goes back and watches over and over again.
“Oh my god. Micky Ward [vs] Arturo Gatti, the first one. Tremendous guys. Salt of the earth kind of guys. Unreal.”
Gatti and Ward shared the ring with each other on three occasions between 2002 and 2003, producing some of the greatest action in boxing history.
The ninth round of their first bout, which Ward won via majority decision, is widely considered to be the greatest round that the sport has ever seen.
‘Thunder’ got his revenge in their second and third clashes however, although the duo would remain close friends up until the tragic death of Gatti in July of 2009.
