Teddy Atlas Names The One Heavyweight Who Hit Harder Than Mike Tyson And George Foreman

Mike Tyson and George Foreman are deemed by many as being two of the biggest punchers in the history of the heavyweight division.

Tyson’s power was evident from the very start of his career, with his first 19 professional bouts ending by knockout, 12 of them coming inside the opening round.

He ended his career with 44 knockouts from his 50 wins, stopping fighters such as Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick and Frank Bruno over the years.

Foreman’s knockout record was just as impressive, as he claimed 68 stoppages in his 76 victories, with the likes of Joe Frazier and Ken Norton falling victim to the power of ‘Big George.’

That power was evident to the very end of his career, as Foreman became the oldest world heavyweight champion of all time in 1994 when he knocked out Michael Moorer.

Despite all of that, legendary trainer-turned-analyst Teddy Atlas believes that one heavyweight hits even harder than both Tyson and Foreman, as he revealed on his The Fight Podcast that he views Earnie Shavers as an even bigger puncher.

Shavers competed between 1969 and 1995, competing for the world heavyweight title on two occasions. His first world title shot was against Muhammad Ali in 1977, and while he lost by unanimous decision, he rocked Ali in the second round and appeared to hurt his rival.

His next title fight was against Larry Holmes in 1979, and he knocked down Holmes in the seventh round before ultimately losing by 11th round TKO.

Shavers ended his career with 76 wins from 91 fights, with 70 of those victories coming by knockout, displaying just how hard he truly hit.
