Teddy Atlas Names Wonderkid Who May Beat Mike Tyson’s Record Of Youngest Ever Heavyweight Champion

Mike Tyson holds the record as the youngest world heavyweight champion in history.

Tyson set the record way back in November 1986 when he knocked out Trevor Berbick inside two rounds to win the WBC heavyweight title at the age of just 20 years and 145 days.

The record has stood for nearly 40 years, but could now be broken after the emergence of a young heavyweight that has taken the sport by storm.

That man is Moses Itauma, the undefeated British hopeful who recently knocked out Demsey McKean inside just one round on the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch card in Saudi Arabia.

It saw Itauma extend his unbeaten record to 11-0, and he has until 19 May 2025 to lift world honours in order to become the new youngest champion.

One big name that believes Itauma is capable of doing just that is legendary analyst Teddy Atlas, who has told his The Fight With Teddy Atlas podcast just what he thinks of the young star.

“He’s a wonderkid. He’s the only heavyweight on the horizon that has a shot to break Mike Tyson’s record to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.

“He only has six months to do it and I don’t think they’ll rush him. He’s got the talent but he doesn’t have the experience to fight an Usyk, a Fury or even a Dubois.

“I don’t know if he’ll break the record but he’s in the running for it if they want to go in that direction. Frank Warren is a smart promoter and he’ll go in the right direction and the direction that gives him the experience and development to not fight for a title but to win a title.”

Along with offering his thoughts on Itauma, Atlas has also revealed just what he thought of that big rematch between Usyk and Fury.
