Shakur Stevenson has yet to taste defeat in his professional career.
Having become world champion at both featherweight and super-featherweight, the highly-skilled Stevenson moved up to 135lbs in 2023 and was able to capture the WBC lightweight title.
He was set to make the latest defence of that belt in Saudi Arabia in October with a voluntary defence against Joe Cordina, but a hand injury forced the American out of the contest and required surgery.
Stevenson will now return in early 2025, and after a bout with mandatory challenger William Zepeda looked to fall through due to Zepeda suffering an injury, it seems that the reigning WBC champion will put his belt on the line against unbeaten Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield.
Legendary analyst Teddy Atlas doesn’t believe either of those two men are capable of defeating Stevenson though, and has instead told ProBoxTV that current WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is the only one capable of doing so.
“He is probably the only guy I can think of beating Shakur right now, because Shakur is that difficult right now ’cause of his style, his eyes, legs, his hand speed, the way he controls range. Tank Davis is the only man I can see that can possibly decipher that style.”
A sought-after unification showdown between Davis and Stevenson has been speculated for a while but is still yet to materialise, with ‘Tank’ expected to return to the ring in March against an opponent that has already vowed to win their fight by knockout.
