The prospect of seeing Canelo Alvarez face Terence Crawford continues to create a debate within the sport.
Despite the fighters being separated by several weight classes, it remains a bout that has split opinion over who would come out on top.
Canelo is the current unified super-middleweight champion and has fought as high as 175lbs, while Crawford won the WBA super-welterweight title in his last bout, in what was his debut in the 154lb division.
Crawford began his career in the lightweight division, but insists the difference in weight wouldn’t be a problem in a match-up against Alvarez.
Another fighter that has ambitions to move through the divisions and become a multi-weight world champion is Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez, the current WBC super-flyweight champion who has already been a unified world champion at flyweight.
Rodriguez has had his say on Crawford facing Canelo whilst speaking to Cigar Talk, and is leaning towards the naturally bigger man to get his hand raised.
“I think Canelo might be too big.”
However, the 24-year-old does believe that if anyone can hang with Canelo it’s someone with the skills of Crawford.
“Crawford has the skills where he can hang in there with Canelo. It’s a good fight.
That’s another fight where you’ve got to see it. I’ve sparred bigger guys but I have the skill to hang in there with him, I think Crawford is one of those fighters as well.”
Fans will hope a fight between Crawford and Alvarez could well still happen in 2025.
