Unified super-featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner has been accused of avoiding a clash with one woman in particular.
The 31-year-old from Ohio made her return to action back in December when she defeated Leila Beaudoin via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their showdown on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s knockout win over Jake Paul in Miami, Florida.
Baumgardner previously held the undisputed world championship at 130lbs but her reign came to an end last September when she opted to vacate the WBC super-featherweight title ahead of a potential move up to lightweight.
Whilst it remains to be seen exactly who the American star will face next, the 31-year-old has been accused of ducking a future clash with WBC lightweight champion Caroline Dubois.
Speaking on the Cigar Talk Podcast, Dubois claimed that she believes Baumgardner does not want to face her, although she does say that a potential showdown between the duo is big for women’s boxing and could happen down the line.
“I imagine that she’s telling them, because I can sense that she’s telling them she doesn’t want the fight, but I feel like Jake and Nakisa see what that fight is for women’s boxing and even if she’s trying to squirm her way out of it, I know they’re gonna be pushing it.”
Dubois is currently preparing for the toughest test of her career to date which is set to take place against WBO world lightweight champion Terri Harper at the Olympia in London on Sunday April 5.
