Conor Benn was left enraged after being egged by Chris Eubank Jr. at their press conference.
The bitter rivals will finally meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on April 26, over two years on from their originally planned meeting in October 2022.
The fight fell through on that occasion with just days to go until the event after Benn tested positive for a banned substance, and after a long and drawn out battle with UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control, he is eligible to resume his career again.
One reason that was floated by the WBC as a potential reason Benn failed his tests was the consumption of eggs, something that Eubank Jr brought up during the launch press conference for their April clash.
He then took things a step further during their face-off, smashing an egg over Benn’s face that left the unbeaten contender absolutely livid and held back by security.
Former world champion Tony Bellew was in attendance at the press conference, and said on the DAZN broadcast that the stunt was ‘a step over’ before going on to discuss what could have happened.
“That shell goes in your eye you could be out the fight … What I didn’t like about that is I’ve got two scratched eyeballs and the eye never fully heals. If a bit of eggshell goes in your eye that’s a nasty scratch on your eye.
“That’s going to really wind Conor up. They won’t get that close to each other again now until they get in the ring. It’s going to take hours maybe even days to shake that feeling off. He’s going to be so angry now. Eubank Jr is laughing his head off.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn was up on the stage when it all unfolded, and has explained how furious it made him.
