Tony Bellew Delivers Honest Verdict On Chris Eubank Jr Missing Weight For Conor Benn Fight

Tony Bellew has had his say on Chris Eubank Jr. missing weight against Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr and Benn will finally meet on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, nearly three years after they were first initially scheduled to collide in October 2022.

It’s been a build-up that has featured lots of twists and turns, including Eubank Jr smashing an egg over Benn’s head at the launch press conference, and another dramatic moment occurred during the official weigh-in on Friday.

Benn came in nearly four pounds under the 160lb weight limit, but Eubank Jr failed to make the weight, weighing 5 ounces over and having to pay a hefty $500,000 fine as a result.

One fighter who prides himself on never having missed weight during his career is former WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew, and he told The Stomping Ground what he thinks about Eubank Jr not making middleweight and how that may affect the rehydration weigh-in on Saturday.

“It’s been really hard on Chris Eubank Jr, but he signed up for this. He agreed to this, don’t agree to fights and weights that aren’t possible.

“They obviously are possible because he’s made the weight a few times over the year. But he’s miscalculated the weight by the smallest of margins and he’s paid the heaviest of prices, literally.

“He’s heavier than 10 pounds right now. I would imagine he’s 14 to 16 pounds right now. His body is in shock right now, so I’m not sure he’ll lose anything in his sleep. It will refuse to give up any weight that it would usually give up overnight.

“If he’s drunk enough water and had enough salt and electrolytes in his body, then potentially he might give up two or three pounds overnight. But believe you me, he’s skipping or he’s back on that bike in the morning. I’ve seen fighters that have done it over the years.”

Bellew isn’t the only man to have a strong opinion on Eubank Jr’s weight miss, with Billy Joe Saunders also offering a damning verdict.
