Tony Bellew remains a keen boxing observer and has had his say on a fight between young Moses Itauma and IBF ruler Daniel Dubois.

These two boxers could represent the future of the heavyweight division. Dubois is already a world champion but is still just 27 and in the early stages of his career, despite having plenty of experience.

His best wins include a destructive KO of former two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua last September, and a stoppage of the highly rated Filip Hrgovic before that, though he has lost to Oleksandr Usyk via knockout back in August 2023.

He has the chance to avenge that and become the undisputed heavyweight champion on July 19 when the pair rematch.

Itauma is just 20 years of age. He has had 12 bouts so far, won them all, 10 of them by KO and most impressively, he has stopped Demsey McKean inside one round and Mariusz Wach inside two rounds.

Speaking to Casino Utan Spelpaus, Bellew was asked what might happen were the two to fight now.

“I just think [Itauma] is an exceptional fighter. Everything about him, his demeanour, his attitude, everything. He’s in his own time. He presses when he wants. He’s quality. I just think he’s very, very good. And then add to that, he’s a southpaw as well.

And I think within 18 months, he’ll be fighting for a world heavyweight title. There’s no fear. I just think, given a little bit more experience, I’d favour him to beat the next crop of heavyweights, the likes of Daniel Dubois.”

For now, Itauma is lined up to fight former world title challenger Dillian Whyte in what will be a huge step up and real test of his mettle.
