Tony Bellew is a keen boxing historian and has now got into the details of what might have happened if Mike Tyson and George Foreman had fought when both men were in their prime.
Bellew is a former cruiserweight world champion himself who had a brief foray up at heavyweight for two fights against David Haye. He won both, albeit Haye was well past his best.
Foreman arguably got better as he aged, and still holds the record for being the heavyweight division’s oldest ever world champion at more than 45 years of age. He eventually retired aged 48 after a loss to Shannon Briggs in 1997.
Tyson on the other hand, was quite the opposite, and he had his best years at a very early stage in his career. He knocked out his first 19 opponents and was a world champion by the age of 20, which is a record that still holds. He fought 59 times, winning 50 times with 44 knockouts.
In a new post on X, Bellew has given his view on how this fight might have gone down.
“George had a granite chin and too much power! Both at peak though itβs a pick em! π₯ππ₯”
Tyson was last in the ring in November 2024 when he took on Jake Paul and barely managed to land a glove on him, which is no surprise given his health issues and the fact he was 58 years of age.
A battle between him and Foreman in their prime though, would have been a war for the ages.
