Chris Eubank Jr versus Conor Benn is just around the corner and Tony Bellew has spoken on how he thinks the fight will go.
This rivalry is one of the longest-running in British boxing. It was an inter-generational feud started by Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr in the nineties that was almost settled back in October 2022 when a fight was scheduled between the sons. The card had to be pulled when it was discovered Benn had tested positive for a banned substance.
Although the welterweight contender always maintained his innocence, he was only finally cleared to fight in the UK and all suspensions were lifted towards the end of last year.
In the time in between. he had a couple of low key fights out in the United States and won both on points, all the while speaking up his chances again Eubank, who is the naturally bigger man.
Eubank, for his part, went off to have two fights with Liam Smith. The first was in January 2023 and ended in his first ever knockout loss, but the rematch months later saw him get revenge and win with his own stoppage.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting in late 2023 when the bout was first being discussed to be rescheduled, former world champion Bellew was asked if Eubank beats Benn.
“Disagree. He’s a big lad but we need to see Conor back first in a normal fight and see how the years have affected him. [He’s] too quick, too explosive. I just think he beats him. I don’t know how it will go. Explosive, powerful, quick. Conor Benn is one of those, you’re probably going to have to knock him out. He’s going out on his shield”
The bout will take place at middleweight with a reported 10 pound rehydration clause.
